How to Help Your Pet with Post-lockdown Separation Anxiety?

Now that the COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted, all pet owners will return to their normal routine and are concerned that their pets may suffer from separation anxiety.

In the days of lockdown, the pet owner spent most of the time with their pets. They had the great opportunity to bond with their pet, spend time training, and learning. This extra bonding and spending time with pets leads to separation anxiety when pet parents can't keep up with the old routine after lockdown over.

Has it ever occurred to you how your pets will cope with this separation anxiety problem when you return to work?

Here we will guide you on how you will deal with pet separation anxiety issue when you get back to your normal routine.

Tips to overcome the problem of separation anxiety

  • Start leaving your pet alone for a while since you are home too. You can do this when you make yourself a cup of tea, iron your clothes, or go to the shower. Start this routine for a few seconds and then increase the time.
  • Use puzzle food toys and accompany this activity with your pet's alone time. This activity can build a positive association with the pet's alone time.
  • Keep your pet on a regular routine – for example, dogs love to eat at the right times, exercise regularly, train regularly, and get plenty of sleep. Try to combine this routine with some alone time every day.
  • Don't make your departure and return overly dramatic, as separation anxiety is seen to start when the owner starts preparing to leave. Similarly, when you return, don't overdo your love. Keep it low-key.

As you follow these tips, you will see that your pet will begin to become desensitized from being alone and will reduce the chances of separation anxiety.

Also, be sure to do all of these things at a pace that your pet is comfortable with because our goal is to keep our pet happy when the normal work routine returns.
