COVID-19 has become a major threat to the health of humans. Thousands of people have died so far due to the pandemic. It is necessary to prevent the spread of infection to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Here are some of the safety measures for the public that can prevent COVID-19 disease.
- Wash your hands frequently with alcohol-based hand sanitizer or soap throughout the day. Washing your hands can help to kill the viruses that have contaminated your hands.
- Keep a minimum distance of 3 feet between yourself and other people. When people speak, sneezes, or coughs, they spray liquid droplets that may contain viruses. If you maintain a distance, you can avoid getting an infection.
- Do not go to crowded places because close contact is enhanced at such places, which increases the risk of infection.
- Avoid touching your nose, mouth, and eyes because contaminated hands can transfer the virus to the inside of your body through these channels.
- Use facemask frequently while going outside and make sure to carry out proper respiratory hygiene. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or bent elbow to avoid respiratory droplets to fall in the air.
- Try to stay home, and self-isolate yourself in a separate room in case of any symptoms, such as fever, cough, and headache.
- If you are experiencing symptoms like shortness of breath, loss of taste sensation, fever, and cough, seek help from a medical professional. Avoid going to the hospital and contact your doctor via voice or video call.
- Keep yourself up to date about the COVID-19 disease through trusted channels and act upon the advice of local administration to prevent disease spread. [i] [ii]
Oral Health to Avoid COVID-19 Disease:
Oral health is necessary to reduce the risk of infection.
- Try to brush your teeth twice a day and never forget to brush your teeth before sleep. You can use an electric toothbrush that has an advantage over a manual toothbrush. Also, brush your tongue or use a tongue scraper for tongue hygiene. If you are suffering from COVID-19 disease, clean your brush with hot water every time after brushing.
- Interdental cleaning is important, which can be done by premade flosser or string floss.
- Use mouthwash and properly rinse your mouth, because mouthwash reaches the sites in your mouth, where a toothbrush cannot reach.
- Decrease the intake of sugar and simple carbohydrates. Try eating fresh fruits and vegetables because simple carbohydrates transform into sugars immediately in the mouth.[iii]
